SM: ALRIGHT, LET'S TALK ABOUT HOW YOU GOT INTO THE MODELING INDUSTRY BECAUSE EVERY MODEL HAS A BEGINNING. HOW DID YOU GET INTO MODELING, AND HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A MODEL?
I've always looked up to models when I was younger but I never really thought I will ever be able to pursue it considering my culture. When growing up people continuously told me to become a model and really pursue it, a lot of people asked me to be in their fashion shows, and I got many compliments because of my distinguish looks. It got to the point where I really enjoyed modeling and have been trying to pursue it since I was 14.
SM: NOW, YOUR NAME SEEMS TO INDICATE SOMETHING OF SIGNIFICANCE...IS THERE A STORY BEHIND HOW YOU BECAME 'MS. SIERRA LEONE'?
My name symbolizes where I am from because its the name of my country. Its a name that tells people my heritage, and where that heritage comes from. But of all as soon as I say my name "MS. SIERRA LEONE' a smile comes on their faces with the words of diamonds coming into mind. No matter who I talk to people know where I am from, and something about my country. Its a name that is easy to remember.
SM: COOL! SO, YOU'VE BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN YOUR ENDEAVORS AS A MODEL, AND THERE'S ALWAYS A 'BEST' AND 'WORST' MODELING EVENT. WHAT WOULD YOU SAY WAS YOUR BEST MODELING JOB?
My best modeling job was a fashion show that I did for Kisu's Closet located in the Cherry Creek area of Denver. It was elegant, all the models were beautiful and very pleasant, I was admired, I had on expensive fur clothing and lingerie, I got paid, and of all I was doing what I loved to do best which was model and have fun at it.
SM: AND, WHAT WAS YOUR WORST MODELING JOB?
SM: AND, WHAT WAS YOUR WORST MODELING JOB?
The worst lol? I had a gig where I was in a video and the theme was basically a clubbish partying theme. It was cold about 25 degrees outside with snow, it didn't start on time, the cops were called on the scene, what the director told us to wear was so ludicrous, while taking pictures all the models feet were frozen because we all had stilettos on, and of all in the end til this day the video nor pictures have been even seen by any models.
SM: ONCE YOU BECAME A PROFESSIONAL MODEL, WHAT ADJUSTMENTS OR LIFESTYLE CHANGES DID YOU BEGIN MAKING TO ENSURE THAT YOU WOULD HAVE A SUCCESSFUL MODELING CAREER?
*Well, now I am a lot busier, food conscious, and time conscious. I always watch what I eat, I take even more care of myself, I don't party all the time, I watch my way of spending money, and of all I really try to balance my school, work, and modeling career at the same time.
SM: IF YOU WEREN'T A PROFESSIONAL MODEL RIGHT NOW, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING CAREER-WISE?
School will. I've never given up on my education and never will. I do both modeling and school because at least if modeling does not work out I will always have my education behind me.
SM: OH, COOL! ...ALRIGHT, SO NOW WE'RE GONNA TALK SOME ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHERS. WHO WAS YOUR LAST PHOTO SHOOT DONE WITH, AND ARE THERE ANY PHOTOGRAPHERS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO WORK WITH THAT YOU HAVEN'T WORKED WITH ALREADY? I KNOW THE RAVE RIGHT NOW IS DOING AN 'ALTER EGO' SHOOT WITH "DEREK BLANKS"...HOW ABOUT YOU?
My last photoshoot was done with Shawn Darnell. He was very funny, outgoing, and cool to shoot with. he is a good photographer and person. The next photographer I am looking forward to working with is Ahmed for Southern XposureModels. I feel that nothing is impossible so before this year is over my goal will be to shoot with him because his work is so beautiful and unique to me.
SM: OKAY, AND EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT THE REASON A LOT OF WOMEN ARE NOT 'PROFESSIONAL MODELS' IN THE MAINSTREAM MODELING INDUSTRY IS BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE 'PHYSIQUE' FOR IT, IF YOU WILL. IN FACT, THE AVERAGE WOMAN IN THE U.S. IS AT LEAST A SIZE 12, WHICH IS UNACCEPTABLE IN MANY AREAS OF THE MODELING INDUSTRY. WHAT DO YOU DO TO KEEP YOUR BODY IN SHAPE AND 'CAMERA-READY' AT ALL TIMES?
I always eat healthy, I take good care of my skin, I workout at least 5 days out of the week, I try to stay stress free, and I always keep myself up with hygiene, and body nutrition.
SM: WELL, IT DEFINITELY REQUIRES AN AMOUNT OF DISCIPLINE, THAT'S FOR SURE! (LAUGHS) DO YOU HAVE ANY UPCOMING EVENTS, PHOTO SHOOTS, OR APPEARANCES?
SM: WELL, IT DEFINITELY REQUIRES AN AMOUNT OF DISCIPLINE, THAT'S FOR SURE! (LAUGHS) DO YOU HAVE ANY UPCOMING EVENTS, PHOTO SHOOTS, OR APPEARANCES?
Well I will be shooting with Southern Xposure Models in the first weekend of March (that's gonna be a blast), I will be making a appearance in Straight Stuntin magazine in March, and I am soon to be a spokesmodel for Turf Tones Mobile Media.
SM: HOW CAN YOUR FANS SEE MORE OF YOUR WORK, AND WHERE CAN THEY GO ONLINE TO CONTACT YOU WITH COMMENTS AND/OR COMPLIMENTS?
I can be found on MySpace under my name, I can be found on twitter under AFRICANNUBIAN, I can also be found on Facebook. By May I should be launching a website so that's really gonna be hot.
